Hi! My name is Julie Wunder.
I live in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
I am married…
We got Maui’d December 2011
… and I am the dog mom to two crazy pups. A handsome long haired dachshund named Rhett and a beautiful boxer named Reina.
Yes, I had to bribe them to get this photo…
By morning I’m an Emmy award winning Meteorologist & Journalist.
Don’t I look professional and serious?
By afternoon and weekend I’m a runner!
I just finished running 9.3 miles! Do I look fast?
I am not the most athletic or fastest runner– but I love it! When I started running in 2009, I hated it and could not run more than one quarter mile at a time. I never did traditional sports growing up, only ballet and dancing. I slowly grew to love the challenge of running and accomplishing things I never thought possible. I kept running longer distances, faster times, and it made me feel like a athlete! As I stuck with it, I found running to be a great stress reliever and way to stay in shape. By 2012 I completed the ultimate running challenge– The Chicago Marathon.
In addition to running I love to travel, read & eat. I want to travel the country and world. My husband and I are often on the go; hoping to see and experience as much as we can. We’ve had some awesome adventures but at the end of the day, I am lucky to come home to my southern roots and mountain home! When I can’t travel, I pass time finding new stories and destinations through the magic of books.
I have a passion for good food, from decadent to healthy, and I enjoy trying new things. My favorite evenings out involve finding the newest restaurant in town. I love that my small town, Asheville, NC, is turning into quite of foodie destination. I don’t love to cook, but I do plenty of it, because I love to eat. I am always looking for fast and healthy recipes that both my husband and I will like. I am a Pescatarian. That basically means I’m a vegetarian (not vegan), but also eat seafood and fish. My husband eats it all!
I created www.runninginaskirt.com to document my running and encourage others to be active. But this blog is about so much more than running– it’s about overall fitness, food, fashion & fun. This is a journal of my life– one crazy adventure after another; hopefully with plenty of grace, speed, and of course skirts. Why skirts? Because they are just more fun! Thank you for reading and sharing my journey to dream big and fast!

Julie, you are missed on WLOS. I finally got enough information to find your blog. Thanks for keeping us up dated.
Hope that you feel better soon and are able to be back on the early morning show.
I to am a runner. Only I can only do 5 and 10 K’s as I am over seventy years old. But I like how good it makes me feel to run. Good luck coming back to us all.
only 5K & 10K’s! You are an inspiration! It’s awesome that you stay active– I pray I can do the same!
Thanks for the kind notes and reading my story!
Glad to know you are recovering. You are missed.
Best wishes for a quick recovery
Julie, I have been wondering where you have been. Never seemed to get any replys with an answer. You are in my prayers and thoughts. God bless you.
I’m glad you found the blog.
Thank you for the prayers and thoughts. I need them!
Julie
Julie I find it encouraging to hear that it IS possible to BECOME a runner and that its not just something you are born with! In my mind running always sounds like a good idea but when it comes to distance it just doesn’t happen. I too was never the sports kid but was (am still am!) the dancer…so I know there’s hope!
If I can do it– anyone can! Good luck!
