Hello! Hello!
I saw this survey floating around the blogging world including on Peanut Butter Runner, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I always think surveys are a fun way to learn more about each other! I'd love to learn more about you too... so please stick around to answer any of the questions in the comments section below.
17 Getting to Know Me Things
1. What brings you the greatest joy?
Just one? How about three... because life should be full of joy.
In no particular order...
First, Travel. I love exploring new places and trying new things.
The world is an amazing place, full of amazing people and I want to see and experience it.
Second, Running. Running keeps me grounded and sane. There is something about putting in those miles that clears my head and makes me a happier person.
Third, simple evening at home with the Hubs and Rhett. I write about ALL THE THINGS we do, but sometimes the greatest happiness comes from all the simple moments at home. They're not flashy, or Instagram worthy, but they are the best.
2. What are your vices?
Cheese and wine. Mainly cheese really. A good cheese plate is one of my favorite things in the world. Bonus points if it has a nice glass of wine with it. I don't drink a lot but I really enjoy nice wine.
3. What is on your nightstand?
Whatever book I'm reading, three alarm clocks (leftover from my days of getting up at 2 AM) and a lamp. I try to keep it pretty clutter free to promote healthy sleeping habits. I also plug my phone into the wall in the kitchen at night and DON'T put it on the nightstand.
4. Do you have a secret talent?
Singing!!!! No-- not really, I'm tone deaf. I just wish I could sing.
I AM really good at growing things and have a bit of green thumb. But you probably figured that out from this...
5. What is your greatest indulgence?
Getting a mani/pedi! I used to go all the time when I was working at the TV station, but I've cut back to every few months, so it feels like a true indulgence when I decide to go.
6. What should everyone try at least once in their life?
Travel abroad. It's so eye opening to see the world in a different way and learn that our way of doing things isn't what everyone does. The world is a big, wonderful place and we are just a tiny little part of it.
I'd also add doing something that scares you, is out of character or is really hard. Running wasn't even on my radar of things I wanted to do and I was terrible at it. But something was calling me to try... so I did. I would have laughed in your face if you would have told me that day I started that I would run a marathon AND have a blog called Running in a Skirt. Those baby steps lead me to where I am today.
7. What makes you laugh?
The Hubs.
And the Rhett-ster.
These two are my world.
8. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Some people are surprised I'm as tall as I am. I'm 5'8."
Also surprising is that even though I built a career on being on TV and in the public eye, I have introvert tendencies. I need to spend some time by myself (or just the Hubs and I) to decompress every once in awhile. Being around too many people for days in a row without small breaks can make me anxious.
9. What is on your bucket list?
More travel including Australia, South Africa and the Galapagos Islands!
10. What is on your feet right now?
Running shoes. I've been nursing that plantar fasciitis, so I've been wearing my running shoes instead of going barefoot around the house. It seems to be helping.
11. How did you make your first dollar?
Most likely babysitting with my best friend Sarah. We were obsessed with the Babysitters Club.
12. What superstition do you believe in?
I've seen this answer on other surveys, but it's something I stand behind too. All bad things happen in threes.
I swear that it seems to happen that way in my world. I wish it didn't, but it does.
13. What items in your closet do you wear the most?
All the dresses. If you follow Fashion Friday, you probably see a theme... lot's of dresses! I feel more comfortable and most like ME in a dress.
14. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
Rhett! My parents gave me Rhett nearly 15 years ago and he's been my best bud ever since.
15. What is on your liquor shelf?
I don't drink a lot of liquor, but we keep it all around for company. If I do choose a liquor drink, I like rum! Mojitos are my jam.
16. What is on your kitchen counter?
I'm kind of crazy OCD about a clean kitchen, so I try to keep it picked up. I can't go to bed with dishes in the sink.
Permanently on the counter? My big red mixer, Alexa, mixing spoons and a toaster oven. I have a coffee bar area with the Kuerig and a basket for fresh fruit and veggies that don't go in the fridge.
17. What would you never leave home without?
My phone and lip gloss. I'm a little too attached to both. 🙂 I've been know to say I can't think without lip gloss!
Thanks for stopping by today! Tomorrow I'll be sharing some thoughts on my two year anniversary of leaving WLOS.
I'm linking up with Thinking Out Loud Thursday!

I'd have a really hard time naming just one thing that brought me joy too!
A green thumb is an awesome skill/talent! I wish I had one. 😛
JulieWunder says
I know- I have a lot of joy 🙂
Edye says
I love posts like these! It was so nice to get to know you a little more 🙂 I wish I had a green thumb. I think I kill plants just by looking at them, haha.
JulieWunder says
Hi Edye! I just give them lots of love!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
What a fun post! I have to agree with you..running keeps me grounded. I'm so happy I've been able to get some runs in lately--and pain free! They've been low miles (4-5) but I'm hoping this means I get to move forward. Wine is my vice, as is getting some sun. And my pup makes me laugh.
JulieWunder says
Woooop for pain free runs! I'm so happy for you. Someday we'll have to share a bottle of wine! 🙂
lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Running definitely keeps me grounded. When I go a few days without running I start to get ancy. But the heat has been so brutal here it has been hard. Mani and pedi are definitely an indulgent for me too. I finally got my second one of the season.
JulieWunder says
I need to go again! Just might have to do it this weekend. 🙂
Emily says
Wow, Rhett is 15? He's such a cute and beautiful dog, and I love how you enjoy the simple joys Julie. It reminds me of how much simple joys really bring me joy. I don't need very much. The simple gifts of family, friends, faith, and joy are really more than I will ever deserve. And running too. I love running. I love just going for a run, no watch, no time limit and just running to run. <3 I loved learning all these things about you Julie, and I was wondering. Would you mind if I did a survey like this on my blog? I'll attribute it to you! :o)
JulieWunder says
Hi Emily! I'd love if you did a survey like this too. I'd enjoy reading your answers too!
Diana @ Live Lean Eat Green says
Nothing in the world makes me happier than a great cheese plate too! Especially when there's Brie cheese haha!
JulieWunder says
Oh me too! I get way to excited!
heather @Lunging Through Life says
I haven't worn dresses much at all this summer so this morning I threw one on. Then I was playing with Annabelle and quickly reminded myself why I haven't worn dresses, haha. Back to shorts and a tank! Just not fun to get on the floor and worry about a dress lol I also believe in that superstition!
JulieWunder says
Haha! That makes a lot of sense! She's totally worth wearing shorts for.
Meagan @ My Life as Mrs says
Australia is the best! I was born there and lived there until I was 10. I miss it like crazy and I truly believe it is the most beautiful place in the world.
Ps. Dresses also make me happy 🙂
JulieWunder says
Ohhhh! I hope to go one day! It's on the short list now.
Annmarie says
So fun getting to know more about you! My vice is definitely wine too- I prefer it over dessert! 😉
JulieWunder says
Oh me too! Such good stuff 🙂
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I did not picture you that tall! Cheese and chocolate for me 🙂
JulieWunder says
Now that's a good day!
Dan Steadman says
awesome...what superstition do I believe in....it's an odd one...only pinning three holes on my race bib, when I was in college, somehow when I got my pins for my race number, there were only enough for three of the holes....so I did that and had the best race of my season....so since then I have only done three holes, seems to have worked...
JulieWunder says
If it works, stick with it!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
FOr some reason, I think I assumed you had some height to you. I think it is your stature (and I mean that in a very good way!). I didn't know Rhett was gift! Your parents nailed it 😀
JulieWunder says
They did! The gift keeps giving!
Blane Sherer says
You are certainly the Travel Queen ( smile ).
JulieWunder says
Thanks!!
Mary Beth Jackson says
I would not have guessed you are that tall! Funny how we think such things. I love travel, cheese and lots of wine myself! Can't have to much! 🙂 Keep smiling!
JulieWunder says
People who watched on TV and then met me where always surprised too. We should have a wine and cheese party!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
I love posts like this. Cheese and wine are totally my vices too, or no wine at the moment, so just a lot of cheese haha
JulieWunder says
Haha! I'd totally miss that wine!
