Happy Monday friends!
I hope you had a beautiful holiday weekend! Mine was pretty good, albeit a little more low key than I imagined.
Saturday turned out to be really rainy in Asheville.
It has actually been tremendously dry in the area, especially at my house, so the rain was actually a welcome sight. Not awesome for traditional 4th of July activities, but my flowers were loving it! The hubs made us festive pancakes and we enjoyed them under the small covered area of our deck. We lingered over our coffee & tea and just enjoyed the morning! We have been go go go lately, so being lazy was a nice change.
By lunch time it was still raining and neither of us were feeling great. All of our busy weekends finally caught up with us, and we just were not feeling our cookout plans. He brought up that we had some stashed Olive Garden gift cards (saved for a rainy day!) and we decided to go the completely anti-4th of July route and eat Italian food.
At least I got dressed up? haha!
The rain let up just long enough to get in a nice long walk, before I watched some fireworks on TV with the Rhett-ster.
It wasn’t actually my vision of a perfect 4th of July, but it was exactly what I needed!
Sunday I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go. I have an area in my yard that needed some flowers filled in, so I decided to drive north of town to a daylily farm called Blue Ridge Daylilies.
I was blown away by how beautiful the place was!
There were thousands of ones to choose from! It was amazing and overwhelming all at the same time.
I took my time walking through and picking out my favorites. I tried to stay to a color scheme, but I eventually just decided to buy the ones I liked and mix them all together.
The whole farm was simply enchanting!
Once I finally picked out the ones I wanted (it took me hours…) they dug them up for me and put them in bags.
The hubs is currently out there planting them for me, so I can get this post ready for you guys first thing in the morning. What a good man!
So that was my weekend in a nut shell. It wasn’t exactly Pinterest friendly or headline worthy, but it was still pretty great. I hope yours was too.
Thanks for stopping by tomorrow! Come back tomorrow because I’m making a vegetarian grilling necessity, cauliflower steaks. The sauce I make for mine, takes them to a whole new level.
And of course, have a Marvelous Monday! Thanks for the linkup Katie.
Your turn!
Tell me one wunderful thing about your weekend!

I think that sometimes the most laid back times are way better than big plans! Looks like a great weekend. We have had a ton of rain and actually had our basement flood last week. Ruined our rugs unfortunately. Those flowers are beautiful!! I love fresh cut flowers!
Susanna @Zealous Mom says
Love, love, love the picture of you at the daylilly farm! I would love to go there sometime.
Farrah says
Aww, sometimes having some time to wind down and do something more low-key is the perfect remedy! I hope you're both feeling better! <3 Those daylilies are gorgeous!!
And yayyy for duckies! They're so cute! <3
Jen@Jpabstfitness says
I love daylilies!! We have them all over our backyard and they are my favorites 🙂

I really like your yard and deck and the recipes, great. Thanks. I think you need to come up with another name for your husband, hubs is not an endearing description. My husband would not like it, he would died dead.
Jamie says
Those flowers are absolutely gorgeous! I went on an impromptu hike this past weekend for 6 miles which was AWESOME! I was more sore from that, than I am from my long runs haha.
JulieWunder says
That does sounds amazing! Sometimes something impromptu is the best!
Lindsey says
Your weekend sounds great! I love those flowers and that's so cool you have so many options to choose from!
JulieWunder says
It took me forever to decide!!! So many choices!
Jess @hellotofit says
Can't wait to see these cauliflower steaks! Glad you got to spend some time outdoors 🙂
JulieWunder says
Thanks Jess!

Thank you!!! Yes you do!!!

Glad you enjoyed your low key 4th. Those daylilies look great and I bet you enjoyed your time at the daylily farm.
My daughter did well at the Miss USA/Miss World pageant in DC, but she did not place in the top 11 out of the 52 contestants. She became close with Miss Arizona over the week so she was happy that Miss Arizona won the pageant.
JulieWunder says
I love adding plants to my landscaping so I had a great time! So glad your daughter did well, sorry she didn't place in the top 11 though. I can imagine it is really hard to break into that!!! Very exciting just to have the change to be there!
Jaime says
The great thing about the day lilies is that they will spread! My mom planted mine along my fence, and there are more each year. I love them. 🙂 And they're low maintenance!
JulieWunder says
I know! I can't imagine how many we will have in a few years!
Annmarie says
That farm looks like a place where I'd love to lose myself for an afternoon! How fun!
JulieWunder says
Yes! They had little benches and everything. Such a cool place.
Danyelle Musselman says
Those flowers are amazing! I want some in my yard!!
JulieWunder says
Thanks Danyelle! Daylillies are pretty hearty!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
I love that you went to Olive Garden on the Fourth of July! haha. Even though it's Italian food, you can't get much more American than that : ) The picture of you with all the day lilies is so perfect!
JulieWunder says
You speak the truth!!! Haha! It was ironically quite American!
Erin@BeetsPerMinute says
Wow! That farm looks so beautiful. I used to go to some really lovely farms with my mother while I was staying in New Hampshire -- they really do often feel enchanting! Glad you had a nice weekend. It actually didn't rain in Glasgow FOR ONCE. 🙂
JulieWunder says
We got your rain I think! Glad you got a break. I love small farms like that. The plants are so much better!
Lee @ Veggie Quest says
Hi Julie, happy Monday! Looks like you had a great weekend! Up here in the DC area our fireworks got rained out, too--a great excuse to sit around and shoot the breeze with friends instead of heading over to the local show. BTW, love your cute little metal frog--and your cute little dog! 😀
JulieWunder says
Thanks Lee! Rhett is a cutie and the frog always makes me smile! Great to see you today!
Jessie says
From what I can see of your backyard, the landscaping is beautiful and your deck is amazing! What a perfect size to have family and friends over for get togethers.
JulieWunder says
Thank you so much Jessie! I love making it nice and pretty. The hubs and I also love to host friends for a party 🙂
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Rainy days and not feeling great--but glad that you rebounded for what looks like a stellar trip to that farm! So gorgeous!
JulieWunder says
Thanks Suz! It was amazing! The flowers are doing so well already too!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
We has a rainy Saturday too and kind of low key as well. Sometimes those are the best right?!
JulieWunder says
Absolutely! Sometimes it takes rain to slow me down, which is what I need sometimes!
Dan Steadman says
just one? Went on a bowling date Saturday with my wife, and then the five of us drove up to Craggy Pinnacle for a rain soaked hike...that was fun
JulieWunder says
Bowling and hiking! Sounds like a great weekend!
Luci Buckner says
Glad that you had a great weekend. We hung out in Asheville on the 4th too as it was also my husband's birthday. We ate at Pack's which is always delicious. And walked around and supported local vendors who were selling their crafts. Saw the dogs jumping in the water at Pack's Square. Got back to our car just as the sky opened out and gave us the precious rain that we needed. It was a good day. Glad that you had fun too Julie. Miss seeing you on the WLOS weather but I love your website. You're a doll.
