Hi everyone!
The hubs and I are back from Antigua! We were there all last week. Yes, we escaped the crazy polar vortex garbage and went south. Really south!
We got back in late… LATE… Saturday night and are still trying to get unpacked and get back in the groove. I spent all day yesterday unpacking and dreaming of warm sunsets.
I did not leave the house Sunday and I'm really kind of annoyed by the cold. UGH! I'm going to have to get groceries today though, so my protest will have to end.
I booked this very last minute trip at the end of the year as the hubs and my Anniversary/ Christmas present this year. We both love to travel so much and really prefer to go somewhere together as a gift. So that is exactly what we did!
The best part of the trip was learning how to sail a Hobie Cat.
The second best part was this really cool eco-tour that involved an entire day of adventure.
We even got to see the gorgeous mangroves and all the animals that live there.
And this amazing rock formation called Hell's Gate. We even climbed the rocks here.
I was having some blog issues last week and my pre-programmed posts were not going out like they were supposed to. I had very limited internet access on the island, so I did the best I could to fix it, but I know it might have seemed like something was off last week. I'm still not exactly sure what the problem is, but now that I am home with good internet I should be able to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem before? The posts aren't publishing at the scheduled time.
I also wanted to share my reasoning for not mentioning the trip until we got back. The hubs and I are still trying to figure out the delicate balance of real time blogging and not letting the world know your house is empty for a week. If anyone else has any ideas on that one, let me know!
I’m going to get together several posts on our trip including fashion, reviews and of course food, but for now I just wanted to drop in to say we are back. You can look for those post in the coming weeks on Running in a Skirt.
As I always say, I am so lucky to be able to travel, but it is so good to be home.
Tomorrow, I’m sharing a super yummy Mexican meal that is family favorite.
Make sure to check out my Sandals Antigua review and my Things to Do in Antigua Post!
Your turn?
Do you like last minute trips?
Have you ever been to the Caribbean?
Andrea says
I love last minute trips- sometimes you just need a vacation. I tend to blog real time while on trips, unless there is no internet access. Then I will write a post most days and start to post each day when I return. I get what you mean about not letting people know your house is empty- usually my significant other is not with me so he holds down the fort.

Oh Julie I am so incredibly jealous of this post! I hope you enjoyed every moment of that warmth and sunshine! I need to get out of this polar vortex ASAP!

Thank you so much! We really needed a break and I can't believe it came at such a great time.

You and the Hubs are certainly the " Travel Couple ".

Love the photos! It's hard to get that balance, and unfortunately I don't have an answer! I do typically share when we leave just because there will be posts up from where we go and such. However, we hvae people who check in on our house every day. I can't wait to read more about your trip! I had no idea you were gone but did thing something was up with your posts 🙂 No biggie!
JulieWunder says
Yeah, sometimes I share... sometimes I don't. If it involves a race I normally do. I always want to tell the world and the hubs talks me down.
I was up at 5AM with an unpublished post again. I guess the task for the rest of the day is to figure it out. 🙂

What a fun last minute trip! You picked the perfect time of the year to go to the caribbean too. I've never been to Antigua, but it looks ridiculously gorgeous!
JulieWunder says
Yeah, it was soooo pretty. The water was beautiful. I love going somewhere warm in January.

So glad you you escaped for a week! My husband is trying to talk me into a trip in Feb to get away. I of course am stressing about the blog (and the kids) so silly huh?
JulieWunder says
Oh wow!!! GOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The blog will be fine!!!! I even had trouble, but it wasn't the end of the world. We should team up and baby sit each others blog during vaca. Now the kids... I have no expertise on that!
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
Ah that's too bad that your posts didn't go out as planned. Blogger's worst nightmare! I also try not to tell people before I am leaving for safety reasons. I think there's nothing wrong with that!
So glad you got a nice getaway from the cold!
JulieWunder says
It was so very nice!
I spent HOURS making sure everything was perfect and it didn't work! I guess that is life though 🙂 oh well!

We love traveling, but it's harder to do last minute things with a kid. :-/ We visited the Bahamas for our honeymoon and it was fantastic!!
JulieWunder says
I can only imagine! The dogs limit us somewhat... but kids are an entirely different issue!

Welcome back Julie. Your trip sounds fabulous. Here's a little hint. When my husband and I come back from a trip I unpack "immediately". Everything out of the suitcases, things put away including toiletries and suitcases put away and out of sight. Then I can concentrate on where I've been and where I want to go next.
JulieWunder says
Exactly!!! I am always dreaming of the next trip! I am such a travel junkie!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
OH MY GOD I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW>
But tell me everything so that I can live vicariously through you!
JulieWunder says
I know. I would probably hate me too. I appreciate your honestly 🙂 haha. More picture to come!

I love that you two booked the trip last minute. Don't have to worry about the agony when counting down the days until you leave. Hah! Looks like you and your husband had an absolute blast!
JulieWunder says
