Many Asian recipes use ingredients that are hard to find, but not this one. These ingredients are commonly found in grocery stores including the super firm tofu. I make a simple marinade for the tofu with ginger, sesame oil, honey, garlic powder, and red chili paste. This recipe is also fabulous because you can bake it in the oven instead of standing over the stove. You'll be surprised at how simple it really is to make a restaurant-quality meal at home without a lot of fuss.
The best part about this recipe is since it's so flavorful and the tofu isn't mushy, it can turn even meat-eaters into tofu lovers.
My Crispy Asian Baked Tofu recipe is now my favorite way to make tofu at home! Tofu is ridiculously easy to make at home, is an inexpensive protein, and when made correctly can taste really good. The secret, in my opinion, is to pack it with flavor AND make it crispy. My favorite way to make it crispy is in the oven!

Here's an overview of what you'll need to make Crispy Asain Tofu recipes including the sauce ingredients. Keep scrolling for the full amounts. The secret to these tasty bites of tofu goodness is in the marinade or sauce. You can easily find these ingredients in most grocery stores or I added some links to Amazon if you shop that way.
- Super Firm Tofu: Look for super firm tofu or extra firm tofu for the crispiest result. Tofu is often found in the produce section of the grocery store.
- Soy Sauce: Soy Sauce gives Asian dishes that rich salty flavor. To reduce the sodium in this dish, buy the low sodium green kind. You can often find it in the international section of your grocery store or online here. You don't really need more salt in the recipe because the soy sauce is so salty. To make this gluten-free you can substitute tamari sauce.
- Fresh Ginger: Fresh ginger is a key flavor for this dish. Start with ginger root and remove the white skin and then mince OR you can save time and buy pre-minced ginger in the tube. It's not exactly the same flavor intensity, but it saves a lot of work. You'll find this in the produce section of the grocery store near the minced garlic.
- Sesame Oil: Sesame oil has a lovely sesame flavor and adds some healthy fats needed to roast the tofu. You can use plain sesame oil or toasted sesame oil for a richer taste.
- Honey: Honey adds just a touch of sweetness and balances out the dish. To make this vegan Asian tofu, use agave nectar as a substitution. In a pinch your could also use a touch of brown sugar.
- Garlic Powder: I like to use regular garlic powder to make the garlic flavor evenly disturbed throughout the recipe.
- Red Chili Paste: Red Chili Paste is a flavor bomb! Find this delicious ingredient in the Asian section of the grocery store or online here. This is where the spice level of the recipe is controlled, so add more or less for extra heat!
- Garnish: Sesame Seeds and/or green onions make a wonderful garnish.

Variations
- Make it Spicy Tofu: Make this spicy by adding more red chili paste, hot sauce or sriracha.
- Make it Vegan: Use agave nectar instead of honey.
- Make it Gluten-Free: Use tamari sauce instead of soy sauce.
- Make it Teriyaki: Instead of using my homemade marinate, you can make a super fuss-free recipe by using your favorite bottled teriyaki sauce.

The marinade seems so easy and delicious! Although I had a horrible experience with tofu so I'd probably use it on chicken for us!
