Ingredients:
Here's an overview of what you'll need to make this Crock Pot Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix, but keep scrolling for the full recipe amounts.
- Peaches: To make this with fresh peaches you will need about five cups of fresh sliced peaches. Look for ones that are at peak ripeness and not still hard. You can't beat fresh summer peaches for this, as peaches any other time of year often aren't sweet. You can also swap out frozen peaches for fresh ones and do not need to thaw them. You can also swap this out with three 15-ounce cans of peaches. You will need to drain the liquid from two of the cans and keep the liquid from the third one. Due to the canned peaches already being sweetened, you don't need to add the extra sugar if you are making this that way.
- Brown Sugar: I add brown sugar to my peaches to naturally sweeten them and help create some moisture for the cobbler. The ¼ cup of sugar is for peaches that aren't quite as sweet. If your peaches are in prime sweetness you can reduce the amount of sugar to two or three tablespoons.
- Cinnamon: I love adding some ground cinnamon to the cobbler to make it taste wonderful.
- Yellow Cake Mix: Look for a standard box of yellow cake mix that is 15.25 ounces.
- Butter: This peach cobbler needs butter. I learned when I lived in Georgia that any good peach cobbler recipe starts with a stick of butter, so this one does too. I don't eat a lot of butter, but I do on special occasions like making this recipe! To prepare the butter cut in into thinly sliced pats so you can evenly top most of the crock pot with it. It allows the cake mix to transform into the cooked cobbler.
Instructions:
This is an overview of the instructions to make this Crock Pot Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix, but the full detailed printable recipe is below in the recipe card.
- Spray your crock pot with cooking spray. You'll need at least a 6-quart crock pot. I use this one. You can also consider using a slow cooker liner for quicker cleanup.
- In a medium bowl toss together the fresh sliced peaches, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Put the fresh sliced peaches in the crock pot.
- Sprinkle the peach mixture with the dry cake mix. Dot the top of the cake mix with the pats of butter. Do not mix or stir. This magical turns the cake mix into the cobbler.
- Cook on high for 2/12-3 hours depending on your crock pot. It will be done when the cake mix is cooked. Crockpot and slow cooker temperatures and cooking times can vary, so keep an eye on it after 2 hours.
- Serve warm with fresh vanilla ice cream. It's SO good!
Make it with Canned Peaches:
To make with canned peaches, substitute 3 cans of 15-ounce peaches in 100% juice. Drain two of the cans and use only the juice from the third can. Put the peaches in the bottom of the slow cooker and sprinkle with the cinnamon. You will not need to add brown sugar because canned peaches are already sweeter, but you can if you want an extra sweet finished product. You can also swap out canned peach pie filling but then don't add the cinnamon or sugar because it's already seasoned.
Make it with Frozen Peaches:
You can also easily make this with frozen peaches. Just swap out the frozen peaches for fresh. They will thaw and cook in the slow cooker in the same amount of time, no need to pre-thaw them. Add both the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Variations
I love this Crock Pot Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix recipe as written, but here are some fun variations.
- Mix Up the Cake Mix: You can also make this white cake mix or spice cake mix.
- Mix Up the Fruit: You can make this same recipe with other summer fruits like blackberries, blueberries, or strawberries.
FAQ
Storage & Leftovers
I recommend making the cobbler and enjoying it right away. This is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store a leftover in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. Reheat the crockpot peach cobbler in the microwave by warming in 30-second increments until warm.
Freezing
I would not freeze this Crock Pot Peach Cobbler with a cake mix because it would taw out soggy.
Note on Using Fresh Peaches:
The sweetness of peaches can vary. If you have a peak, super sweet in-season peaches, you can reduce the amount of brown sugar to ½ or ⅓ cup.
Why is my peach cobber soggy?
Peach cobbler can get soggy if you use too much sugar with very ripe peaches, as it causes the peaches to release water. This recipe doesn't call for too much sugar. If there is some liquid at the bottom of the crock pot, give it 10-15 minutes and allow it to thicken up. If you notice there is a lot of moisture in the pot while cooking, you can also put a paper towel under the lid to catch condensation.
How can you tell if a cobbler is done?
Much like making a cake, you can stick your toothpick into the cake mixture and if it comes out clean, it is done.
