Happy Tuesday peeps!
I hope you guys had a nice weekend and Monday. Once a month I like to share some of the fun tidbits going on behind the scenes of normal blog stuff... I call it Currently! Here we goooo....
Currently I’m…
Reading…
I asked for book suggestions on my last Currently post and you guys sent me some great ones- thank you. Right now I'm diving into A Hundred Summers that Maureen recommended. I'm looking forward to finishing it at the beach later this week. The Hubs and I are going to Destin tomorrow for a work trip he has.
Listening…
No surprise, but I love the new Kenny Chesney song. It's such a great anthem for life.
Watching…
Since tax season is over, the Hubs and I are back to trying to find shows we both actually want to watch. I caved and let him pick Lost in Space this past weekend. It's actually been pretty good... although a little more sci-fi than my tastes if I was picking for myself. BUT if you are in the same boat looking for a show that appeals to both you and your partner... it might be a good one to try.
Eating…
I've been on an oatmeal bowl binge lately for breakfast. One of my favorite creations is oatmeal with cinnamon and a touch of honey. The toppings here are strawberries (from SC!), goji berries and coconut. Simple but so good.
Indulging…
The Hubs and I had THE best dinner last Friday night at The Blackbird restaurant in downtown Asheville. It was really warm even in the evening so they had their beautiful windows open to where it felt like you were eating outside, without actually being in the elements. We had a great time people watching as the sun went down.
We ordered the Thai Roasted Brussels Sprouts, which were divine. It had peanuts, feta and mint which was so unexpected.
We then shared a Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad. The greens were so fresh and the goat cheese paired perfectly with the almonds and strawberries.
For dinner I got my favorite dish... the Seafood Risotto. It was delish! The Hubs got the pork chop, which he said was one of the best he'd ever had.
We also shared a slice of their epic coconut cake. This is just as good as it looks and one of my favorite sweets in Asheville. We took half of this home for dessert the next day.
It had been way too long since we had dinner downtown. The Blackbird has a great new spring & summer menu which we loved. If you are looking to eat downtown, make a reservation... you will not be disappointed. Thanks to our friends at the restaurant for hosting us for this delicious meal.
Drinking…
I've been drinking lot of water lately... which is kind of boring so here's a random shot of Makena being crazy with her boxer friend Sadie. There are three young boxers who live on our street and Sunday night we got them all together to celebrate Sadie's first Birthday. And yes... we are those people. Also yes... Makena has a giant tongue and her ears go back like that when she's being crazy. 🙂 I wish you guys could see them all playing together... it's pure joy.
This picture made me laugh... so I had to share. I tried to a get a cute posed photo but it just wasn't happening.
Anticipating…
I can't wait to go to Destin tomorrow! Even though I grew up in Florida, I've never been. The farthest west I ever made it on the Panhandle was to Panama City Beach for Spring Break one year. I've heard it's a gorgeous beach and I can't wait to see it. The Hubs will be in business meetings for a chunk of the trip, so I'm looking forward to chilling out on the beach with a book. It should be a relaxing few days.
Praying…
Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes and prayers to my family over the loss of my Grandfather. I really appreciate your support. Right now I'm praying for my Grandmother who lost her partner of 73 years. I can't even imagine how she is feeling. She's doing as well as could be expected and I just pray she can find peace in being alone.

I have been loving oatmeal bowls lately too! The weather has gotten really cold here so I’ve been enjoying steaming hot bowls with coconut butter, peanut butter, banana, honey and heaaaps of cinnamon.

That coconut cake... just wow.
I am so sorry for your family, and I can't imagine what your grandmother is going through. 73 years??? That is longer than many people's entire lifetimes! How lucky for her that she had him for so long

A lot of people think Kenny Chesney is overrated, but I love him!!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the book Julie! It will be perfect to finish up on the beach in Destin. The Kenny Chesney song is so good! Now that the window is warm I find myself rolling down the windows and singing along to it while driving.
