Hello! Hello!
Don't forget to enter my NEW $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway HERE!
I had planned to share my recap from my trip to Louisville with you today, but with getting sick I don't have it ready yet. I started feeling extremely tired and worn down Sunday (which I thought was just exhaustion from the wedding) and I woke up Monday feeling like I'd been run over by a truck. By Tuesday my throat felt like it was on fire, so I went to the doctor and they started treating me for strep throat. With the exception of coming upstairs to my office to write the wedding recap (which I was pretty loopy when I wrote) and this post I've been on the couch all week. Please forgive me if this post is a rambling mess! I've already cancelled half my weekend plans and I hope I don't have to cancel the rest, but it's not looking good. Please send healing vibes my way because this is for the birds. I have all kinds of blog projects I need to get done.
On another sad note, today is the 5th anniversary of my Mom's death. I've been trying not to play it up too big in my mind, but as it's gotten closer I can't seem to forget about it. I don't have it in me to write a full post about it again... but to honor her please consider reading Why I'll Never Get Over Losing My Mom & 50 Life Lessons from My Mom. You can also make her famous Sweet Potato Casserole for Thanksgiving. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her and I can't believe it's been five years since we lost her.
I realize that this is perhaps the most depressing start to an article that I've ever written, so I thought I'd redeem myself by sharing some slightly more lighthearted Currently... fun for the rest of this post. I promise that despite being sick and with the anniversary, I'm really doing ok. 🙂 Mom wouldn't have wanted me to mope, so I'm not going to.
Currently I’m…
Reading…
I'm still reading the Wright Brother's book from the Hubs collection. If you are interested in avaition history at all, it's a good read!
I'm actually looking for suggestions for my next book. Does anyone have ideas?
Listening…
Oh how I love this song. Isn't the message beautiful?
Watching…
My sweet husband has been avoiding me like (literally) the plague. He's basically been helping me get food and leaving the room, which I don't blame him for at all. I really don't want him to get what I have.
Since I've had complete control of the remote, I decided to start a new girly series, Pretty Little Liars. I've got to admit I'm kind of obsessed but I have no idea where I'm going to find the time to watch 7 seasons of it!
Wearing…
Winter PJ's???? Sigh...
Well before I got sick I was wearing this outfit on repeat. Get the details about it here.
Eating…
Soup!!! The Hubs made an Earthfare run on Monday and picked up soup for days. I'm so grateful that he's so good at taking care of me when I'm sick and I've had something nourishing to eat. As soon as I get better I'm making my Crock Pot Vegetarian Taco Soup... which just happens to be one of the most popular recipes on my site right now.
Sadly I didn't have any Halloween candy though, so as soon as I can taste again it's on. What's your favorite kind of Halloween candy?
Drinking…
I'm trying to drink lots of water but it's a struggle with the sore throat. Anyone have any ideas?
Indulging…
I'm completely indulging in any and all photos of my Brother's wedding. The weekend was absolutely epic and I've been loving looking back and reliving the moments.
Anticipating...
The next big event in my world is Thanksgiving on Hilton Head Island. I mentioned this before, but the Hubs and I decided to take a year off from hosting and take the party to the beach this year. I'm looking forward to sending some time with the salty air and having a slightly more relaxed weekend this year.
Praying…
To get better? I hope this doesn't sound too selfish, but I've had some bad luck in the past with getting sick and struggling to get better so I'm hoping I can turn this around soon! I sound like a frog again and I'm totally ready to go back to regular life.
Also praying that the Hubs doesn't get sick too!
Thank you so much for reading today and for your kind comments. I'll be back Monday with that post on Louisville and I promise to not go on and on about being sick again. 🙂
I’m linking up with Marvelous Monday & Thinking Out Loud Thursday.
Your turn!

I hope you feel better soon!! I'm glad it's soup weather though--I feel like soup always makes me feel better (whether or not it's a placebo effect, I don't want to know). It's not selfish to want to get well!! Sending you lots of healing thoughts--try to get lots of rest! <3
JulieWunder says
I totally agree! Soup weather is the best.

Awww, I hope you are feeling better. Don't feel bad about writing a sick post, we've all been there and we know you need a little love! I've certainly written my fair share of downers this year. Anyways hang in there, friend!

Thank you so much Wendy! xoxo

I am sending you healing thoughts and prayers. I love reading and have a couple of books that you might enjoy. Still Alice by Lisa Genova and if you want to read what I consider to be the best Classic read A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Take care Julie. I love your blog, and you are not rambling.
JulieWunder says
Ohhh thanks for the book suggestions Julie! I appreciate your support! xoxo

Feel better soon, Julie. I'm so sorry you are sick. Take this time to really let your body rest and try not to stress over the blog. I'm currently reading the new Jan Karon book, "To Be Where You Are" and really enjoying it, so I recommend that book.
JulieWunder says
Thanks so much Debbie!

On the winter PJ's note, I'm down because of the elastic bands.
But dear, I am so sorry that you have the plague. Alex and I have a plague, but it doesn't seem nearly as bad as yours! Oh positively dreadful. I hope that you recover ASAP.
Much love to you on this anniversary. The pain will never truly go away, I'm sure.
JulieWunder says
Thank you! Hope you guys feel better soon too.
Lisa Ballantyne says
Oh my gracious Julie! I felt your pain reading this whole thing! I hope you are on the mend soon! In the meantime, my mother swore by hot lemonade (she called it hot lemon tea) when I was sick (rather frequently too!) In my youth. Guaranteed to break a fever!
My heart goes out to you as you remember your mom; I miss mine more and more each day; she has been gone since January 31, 1991. Treasure your memories!
Lovely wedding photos--can't wait to see more!
Take care of yourself!
JulieWunder says
Thanks Lisa! Feeling a little bit better today. 🙂
Joan Smith says
Julie, my mom always made us hot lemon water with honey. It really helps a sore throat. She too is gone now but I still make the hot lemon water. It really will help. I hope the hubs stays well and you are soon back to normal.
JulieWunder says
Thanks so much Joan! xoxo

So sorry that you are feeling under the weather; I'm thankful God uses the colds often to build up our body's immunities and then we often come back stronger. <3 Your husband is so sweet to go get you food and soup, and I'm glad you have some cozy winter PJ's to snuggle in while you're under the weather.
I really like hot peppermint tea for a sore throat or vanilla or peach tea; it seems to be really soothing. If you add a little bit of honey, it can be really good for the throat too!
JulieWunder says
Thanks for the ideas Emily! xoxo
Dan Steadman says
for the sore throat, try lots of hot tea, before bed try Celestial Seasons Sleepytime tea with Jack Daniels and Honey...trust me on it.
as far as currently....Drinking...can't get enough of New Groove's The Weisse is Right on Peaches beer...sadly when I come in on Saturday nights, they just start pouring for me...though mark your calender Highland's Cold Mountain is released....and Pisgah's Winter Warmer is around the corner
praying...my missionary friend in Nigeria is trying to make there way home to SC but is having no luck...praying they make it home for Thanksgiving as I am facing the possibility of not being invited to dinner
JulieWunder says
More bourbon! lol!! Ok- I'll have to try! Thanks for the idea.
Hope your friend gets home safe.
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-Ups says
Hope you are feeling better ASAP. Big anniversaries like that are tough, I will be thinking of you. Hopefully the hubs stays healthy and you guys will be back to doing fun things soon.

Sorry that you have been sick. I hope you feel better.
Yes, Anniversaries of major personal losses can be tough.
Thoughts and prayers are with you.
JulieWunder says
Thanks so much Blane.

Sorry to hear you have been so sick. I, too, am recovering from a bout of strep throat which I feel no one over the age of 21 should be allowed to catch;--)
Loved the wedding photos and can't wait for more.
I just finished a good book, The Address by Fiona Davis.
Yesterday was the 4 month anniversary of losing my father. Each month I have found a way to remember him...always in prayer, but yesterday I planted a tree in his memory. I wish you peaceful thoughts as you remember your Mom today.
Get better soon!
JulieWunder says
Ugh! I'm so sorry you've been sick too! This stinks! I'm finally feeling a bit better today. Hope you are too.
Thanks for the book recommendations!
Beth Ann Chiles says
It is absolutely no fun being sick and especially after being on such a "high" with the wedding. Boo! I am praying you get better soon and are back to your normal perky self. But it is always nice to read your posts even if you think they are rambling! Take care!
JulieWunder says
Ugh! I know!! I am finally feeling a little better today! Thank you! xoxo

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I like having hot tea and putting alka seltzer in it when I am not feeling good.
JulieWunder says
Thanks for the tip. I'm finally feeling just a little better today.
