The best fall flavors come together in my Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe.
Hi everyone!
I have a soft spot for apple butter. When I first moved to Asheville I would often meet my Mom and Grandmother Bea in Gatlinburg to visit a restaurant called The Apple Barn. My Mom would travel from Florida to visit Bea in Chattanooga and they would drive over from there so it was just a few hours for both of us. The restaurant is known for apple fritters, apple cider and of course... apple butter. The main menu specialized in perfectly butter filled southern food and despite the unhealthiness of it all, I wish I had one more chance to enjoy a meal there with them.
I got a craving the other day for that good ole' apple butter and decided to try my hand at making my own apple butter with a healthy twist. My Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe was born and it's one of the tastiest recipes I've made this fall!
Why you have to try my Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe...
My first order of business in creating a Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe was to make it a little better for you. Apples are so naturally sweet I figured the overload of sugar probably wasn't necessary. I substituted regular white sugar for coconut sugar and reduced the amount. I made a not in the recipe about how you can use more or less depending on how sweet you want your butter.
I added pumpkin because I thought the combination of fall flavors would be perfect... and they are. Pumpkin is actually full of vitamins, fiber, and even iron! It may get overused this time of year, but the puree it'self is actually really good for you.
To make my Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe all you do is chop a few apples (don't even bother peeling them!) and cook them in the slow cooker first with apple juice. After the apples are soft you add the canned pumpkin and spices. It could not be easier.
The fresh apple and pumpkin puree comes together in this smooth and creamy apple butter in no time at all. Serve it on toast, with biscuits and even pancakes!
It even packages great as an edible gift.
The flavor of my Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe is incredible and ohhhhhhh the house smells ahhhh-mazing while it's cooking. It's a perfect thing to make on a weekend when you want to feel all sorts of cozy.
Even though my Mom and Bea are no longer with us, I feel like they would totally approve of this healthy version. My Healthy Crock Pot Apple Pumpkin Butter recipe just might be a new family tradition.
