It’s time to get “SHREDDED!” Ok, so maybe that was a little too much enthusiasm for a workout DVD, but I am a big fan of Jillian Michaels. I never watched The Biggest Loser, but I think her DVD’s are great and can be a wonderful addition to your workout routines.
I love that workout DVD’s like these have stepped up the pace and intensity to actually give you a workout instead of waste your time. I remember buying a couple workout (eh-um) video cassettes after college and they were useless. You didn’t even break a sweat. Now, there are a whole slew of options that can bring you results.
Jillian’s DVD, in my opinion, is a great place to start if you want to try to start a workout at home program. There are tougher DVDs out there (Bob Harper, P90X, Insanity,) but 30 Day Shred is developed to be accessible to people of many physical abilities. It can be done by beginners, but it can also be made harder as you advance by adding more weight. Jillian explains all of this very well on the DVD.
The 30 Day Shred DVD is designed to kick start a workout routine. The DVD has three twenty minute workouts on it. The first one is a basic level and increases in intensity up to level three. The idea is to use it for 30 days straight to see big results or possibly even end up SHREDDED by the end of the month.
*SIDE NOTE* Jillian refers to being SHREDDED several times on the DVD and I find this hilarious. I want to be fit... but SHREDDED? – naw, not really . Don’t worry though, you can get toned and fit using the DVD without actually bulking up. I just think it’s fun to play along and pretend I’m getting SHREDDED! Ok, enough of that. Moving on… *END SIDE NOTE*
I actually don’t use this DVD the way it is designed. I think doing only three workouts for 30 days straight would get VERY boring and would give you serious burnout. I use this DVD has a supplement to my other activities like running and cross training on my elliptical. It’s really great to throw in on days when I really only have 30 minutes to get a workout in and for days when I am really craving or needing strength training, but I don’t have the time to come up with my own routine. I would suggest that if you only want to do workout DVDs, you buy a couple different DVD’s to mix it up. Jillian has many options. If you go from the couch to doing a workout like this for five days a week, you will see a huge difference in your body. Want to loose weight as a New Year’s resolution? Try this.
Each workout is designed with three different circuits. Each circuit is divided into three different parts. First you do a weight or strength activity (all you need are hand weights and a small amount of space to do the workout.) Then you do a cardio activity and you finish with abs and core work. She tries to keep your heart rate up during the whole workout so when you are doing the strength parts you actually burn more calories. The moves are not too complicated or hard to learn. In fact, at times they are as simple as jumping jacks, squats and lunges. The trick is to give the workout your all and increase your hand weights if it feels too easy. You get out of this workout what you put into it. If you only do the moves half way (or “phone it in”,) you will not get a workout. But if you commit to working hard, this is totally worth your time.
I find Jillian herself to be very personable and inspiring on the DVD. She is so fit! She pushes me to work hard without being annoying and making me want to throw something at my TV.
And to top it off, this workout is cheap! Right now, the DVD is HERE on amazon.com for $6.87. You can’t beat the price.

I think the key to success in keeping with a workout routine is to keep it interesting and don’t give yourself the option to opt out. Jillian’s 30 Day Shred can be a great little tool to keep in your workout arsenal for a day where the weather is bad and you can’t run or you just don’t have a lot of time. Throw the DVD in, give it your all for a short amount of time, and you will feel great.
Maybe even a little SHREDDED. Sorry, couldn’t resist![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

Well said! This dvd is great for beginners or those who are currently not in the habit of working out regularly, who have resolved to do so. It is a great gateway to more difficult workouts and gets more difficult with each stage. That said, I got bored doing the same workouts and had to add other things to my routine. For more of a challenge, add Jillian's "No more trouble zones" or try her Body Revolution. Without following the meal plan and sticking to my usual 80:20 style of eating (80% healthy, 20% beer & pizza), I was able to get ripped using both of these which are packed with very effective combination moves. As a 37 y/o mother of 3, it's nice to see ab and oblique muscles when not flexing. It's best to rotate your workouts to keep from getting bored or hitting a plateau. That leads to a major lack of motivation!

I have tried this DVD twice, and have not lost any weight. Now my goal is small, only 10 lbs, which I guess is the hardest to loose, but I feel like the DVD isn't enough for me. You recommend someone else's DVD?

Hey Mandi! Try Bob Harper. He has some that are 45 minutes- 1 hour and are more intense!

Also try it 3-5 times a week for several weeks and see where you get!
