Ingredients:
Here's an overview of what you'll need to make these Nutella Energy Bites, but keep scrolling for the full recipe amounts.
- Nutella or off-brand Chocolate Hazelnut Spread: You'll need Nutella, which is a hazelnut spread with cocoa powder (cacao powder) to make these. Buy it here. You can also make these with other nut butter like peanut butter or almond butter. Nutella contains milk products and is not vegan. To make it vegan, use this spread.
- Oatmeal: I like to use old-fashioned oats in this because they old their texture a bit more. You can use quick oats or instant oats too. To make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free oatmeal.
- Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are a great addition to this to add protein, fiber, and nutrients. You can also substitute ground flaxseed.
- Hazelnuts or almonds: I like to add some nuts to this, you can pick what you like including almonds, peanuts, cashews, or hazelnuts. Hazelnuts more naturally complement the Nutella, but almonds are also super delish in this Nutella Energy Bites recipe, less expensive and easier to find.
Instructions:
This is an overview of the instructions to make Nutella Energy Bites, but the full detailed printable recipe is below in the recipe card.
- Put the Nutella and oatmeal in a food processor and mix until well combined. Add all the hazelnuts and chia seeds and mix until just smooth. If you don't have a food processor a high-speed blender will also work.
- Form into perfect bites 1-inch bites with your hands. Use damp hands to form the balls so they will not stick to your hands.
- Pop in the fridge to firm up.
- Enjoy!
Variations
I love this Nutella Energy Bites recipe as written, but here are some fun variations.
- Add Dried Fruit: Dried fruit like cranberries or raisins.
- Add Chocolate Chips: To make these more indulgent, add mini-chocolate chips. The extra chocolate is delish.
- Add Coconut: You can also add shredded coconut for a tropical twist.
- Add Sweetener: If this isn't sweet enough for you, add a sweetener like honey or maple syrup.
