The garden is in the ground. WOOP!
The weekend before last we went to the Herb Festival at the WNC Farmers Market to get our veggie and herb plants for the year. I’m waiting on doing our summer flowers until I feel a bit better, but the garden needed to get started! Those veggies can’t wait.
Since it rained like crazy the weekend we got the plants, we nursed them in their little containers for a week and made some time to plant this weekend.
UGH! That’s me trying to avoid the pollen. I know how stupid it looks. Heh. We do what we have to do.
AND this is Reina not caring about pollen at all…
Oh, such a happy dog
Rhett was off somewhere eating dirt. Classy dogs.
My husband built me this fancy raised bed last year. It had always been a dream of mine to have one. I adore it.
He added a drip hose around the base of the plants for me Sunday.
Last year we had a sprinkler go over the top of the plants and we think that helped spread disease near the end of the growing season… so we thought the drip hose would work better.
Has anyone had any luck doing this?
Reina loved the idea. She is an awesome gardener.
In the raised bed—Tomatoes, Cucumber, Squash, Zucchini & Peppers! I can’t wait.
I put an extra couple tomatoes and peppers in pots just for good measure. I’ve had really good luck in the past with sweet 100 tomatoes and banana peppers in pots.
And the herbs also went in pots to go on top of our deck closer to the kitchen.
Watch out for my upcoming post on how to make that herb tower. I think you’ll love it! It looks super cute by your kitchen door and is a wise use of space.
I can't wait until it all starts growing... Don't you love homegrown food?
Later Friends!

We have a garden every year with corn, green beans, cucumbers, tomato, and squash and zucchini. The corn and cucumber are my favs (lost most of the corn last year due to a SC summer storm that tore down the corn). Tips, our is at the top of the yard so there is not a lot of downhill water. We also put in a ton of sand and topsoil the second year (combat some of the effects of the clay-ish soil in SC). Thankfully we live on a former peach field so the soil was ripe for growing....good luck!

Julie, I mow and weed-eat with a pollen mask on. It helps me not have a spring sinus infection.

Looks fantastic Julie. I have a 'red neck garden' but it works great for me. I grow tomatoes (4 or 5 different kind) cukes, radishes, beets, peas, basil, oregano and what ever else I can fit in.
I don't know where you live but watch out for the deer, they flattened my whole garden in one night last year 🙁

Yes, looking forward to instructions for the herb tower!! We have a tiny patio and would love to grow some low maintenance things there.

I've had some sort of garden since the summer of 2000, when I graduated college. I started with potted plants (I'll never forget growing tomatoes and basil that first summer!) and when we bought our house, we went with raised beds. We grow tomatoes, several types of squash, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach and peppers. I always have several basil plants (I could live on pesto) and this year, I'm trying to grow other herbs. I plan on drying them so I can avoid buying overpriced jars of herbs.
Don't over-water the tomatoes. That's one of the biggest problems I run into.
My other advice would be to start coming up with new recipes. 🙂 We'll be harvesting our gardens before we know it!
