Hi guys!
Memorial Day Weekend was not as exciting as I hoped due to some INTENSE rain. We've had serious flooding in the mountains and even deaths caused by the rain, so I can't complain about the soggy skies simply making it hard for us to do things. My thoughts are with those impacted by the flooding and especially the local tv news reporter and photographer who were killed when a tree fell on their car just a few counties south of where I live.
I also wanted to take a moment to thank those who have fought for our freedom and especially the families of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I cannot forget that we are free to enjoy our beautiful Memorial Day weekends because of those brave enough to fight for us.
With that being said, I did make the most of the holiday and had a few highlights to share!
Saturday morning starting off pretty low-key. It was supposed to rain, but there was a small hole in the radar so the Hubs, Makena and I went to a nearby trail and did some walking/ hiking.
Even with the clouds and damp air, it was nice to get out!
Makena had the best time and is such a good little adventurer. Her only issue is she thinks everything (person or animal) wants to be her best friend.
After our walk, we made lunch at home and started some work around the house. Our deck was a disaster and our outdoor furniture needed some TLC. It started raining on us before we got a lot done, but we did enough to realize a Lowe's run was needed. We ran to the store, did some errands and got dinner on our way home.
We had a super tasty meal Surf N Brew Oyster Bar. The rain cleared long enough for us to eat outside, which was so nice.
We also had just enough clear weather to catch a pretty sunset!
After dinner, we went home and watched Lincoln on Netflix. I was excited to watch it but both of us fell asleep. It was a pretty slow movie.
Sunday started off with Blueberry Pancakes. For those of you who are newer to the blog, the Hubs makes excellent weekend pancakes and these did not disappoint. I've been borderline obsessed with blueberries the past few weeks.
After breakfast, we quickly got back to work on our outdoor projects. The patio furniture looked awful so we cleaned it up and the Hubs gave it a good coat of spray paint. I always think it's time to buy new stuff and somehow he makes it look brand new again with a little spray paint.
We also spent WAY too long trying to get all the pollen off of our deck. You'd think the rain would just wash it off, but somehow it had gotten practically glued to the deck. We were afraid power washing would pull our stain up, so we scrubbed it with this cleaner we found at Lowes. It was a royal pain, but it worked! Hopefully our outdoor space will be good to enjoy for the season.
For dinner, we ended up having two couples over for a last minute mini cookout. There were a couple light showers during the night, but not enough to completely keep everyone indoors. I kept it simple with a packaged salad, watermelon, and roasted potatoes.
The highlight of the meal was my Shimp Burgers with Mango Avocado Salsa. If you guys haven't tried these yet... you MUST! They are so good.
Makena is a lovely host and had so much fun. It always takes her a minute to calm down when people walk in, but she ended up in everyone's lap by the end of the night cuddling. She definitely knows how to work a room!
Monday I desperately wanted to go for a hike or go kayaking but it literally poured all day. It probably worked out for the best though because I was pretty tired from the work we did outside the previous days and cooking. I ran on my treadmill and did some shopping online (I got new outdoor cushions to go with my freshly painted furniture!) but otherwise, it ended up being a good ole' Netflix day. We even ordered pizza in, which we never do!
As I'm tying this on Tuesday it is once again pouring and hasn't let up much today either! Where we live doesn't have a risk of flooding so I feel safe, but keep my neighbors in your prayers... it's been a soggy few days and it looks like it's not stopping anytime soon.
Your turn!
How was your Memorial Day weekend?

What a bummer that the weather was so poor for your long weekend! But it still looks like you made the most of it!
Your dinner spread looked delish!!

We had heat, as Wendy commented. That is terrible about those people in the car. Did you know them personally? And cabin fever is real. With the kiddo, I'm going to have ro be REALLY careful about taking her out in it, so basically, we have a particular window that we can go out in!

That rain is scary! Hope it is drying out now. Those salmon burgers sound awesome!

I love your chairs spray painted! they look so good. I'm sorry to hear about so much rain. I haven't really followed the news lately but man that's so sad!

Haywood County had a pretty wet long weekend as well! But I elected to stay indoors anyway--I always avoid being out in traffic on busy holiday weekends. Glad that you were able to make the best of all the rain! I'll just guess that during your meteorologist days you took a lot of flack from people who actually blame the weather conditions on those in your longtime line of work!
Those blueberry pancakes look amazing, BTW!

Bailey is the same way with other animals and people! Unless the other animal is a dog she can't see that barks at her to say hi. Then she runs the other way haha. I'm glad you were able to spend some time outdoors even with the rain this weekend Julie! The rocking chairs look awesome. Your husband did a fantastic job 🙂

In contrast to your very wet weekend, we roasted here in the Midwest! We broke records every day and it was 97 on Sunday, which was graduation day for my son. Thankfully it was inside. Crazy weather!

Those are some nice shots.
As usual you have a pretty sunset shot ( smile ).
Yes, lots of rain and still more to come.

The rain has been incessant, hasn't it? We have so many roads closed and power out due to downed trees. The sadness of the deaths of that news team hit me as that is the station I usually watch these days for my local news.
I am with you on the pollen! It is like glue. Yellow glue. I have not gotten all of ours off our decks and it is bugging me. I have swept it repeatedly but it needs more than that. I may have to get your product recommendation! The yellow is really getting pretty bad on the front deck.
Seems like the rain has to stop sometime. I am counting on it!
