Hello 2018! I hope y'all had a wonderful New Year's Eve and Day.
Today is a travel day for me as the Hubs and I are going to Kauai for week to kick off the New Year. I'm beyond excited! Hawaii is my favorite place in the world and I can't wait to be back. I'll of course be sharing as much as I can through Instagram Stories, so make sure to follow along.
I've often used the first few blogging days of the year to share my resolutions, talk about why I'm not making resolutions or even set words I'd like to live by in the coming 12 months. This time around, I thought I'd flip the page and share some inspiration for you to set some New Year's Resolutions. I know many of us make the same resolutions year after year so I thought it would be nice to give you a little inspiration to mix it up this year. These ideas can be in addition to the ones you've already set or replace ones that just don't feel right. This resolution inspiration is a combination of goals I've been wanting to work on too and things I've wanted to help inspire you to do through this site.
Use this list to think outside the box with your resolutions and make 2018 the best year yet.
Resolution Inspiration for the New Year
Do Something New
I'm a creature of habit and I imagine many of you are too. I thrive off of routine, but know I feel most alive when I break out of my mold and do something new. Whether it's trying a new restaurant once a month, finding a new fitness class or even running a new path getting off routine can be a good thing sometimes. Heck trying something NEW can be as simple as picking up different veggies at the grocery store this week. Doing NEW things will be at the top of my priority list this year and I hope yours too! Following the path less traveled can be quite inspiring.
Go on a Hike
I love to hike and get outdoors. I know not everyone is lucky enough to live in an area with so many outdoors activities, but most places have some sort of park or nature area to enjoy. One goal could be to do one hike a month!
Go Meatless Occasionally
I try not to push my vegetarian/pescatarian lifestyle on anyone, even you guys. If you've been reading my site and have been curious about vegetarian meals but haven't pulled the trigger yet to try, now is the time. Going meatless even just once a week can improve your overall health, is better for the environment and is often cheaper! Next week I'm going to share 5 meat-eater friendly vegetarian meals with you so you can consider going meatless once a week a chance.
Forgive Someone
This might sound trivial, but I really think it can make a big difference in removing toxic feelings in your life. If there is someone you've been holding a grudge towards, find a way to forgive them this year. You don't have to best buds with someone who hurt you, but digging deep and letting go of those negative feelings will help you so much. There is really no point in keeping that negativity in your life. I tend to hold grudges (not my finest trait,) so it's something I am working on to.
Give Back
My last resolution inspiration is to find ways to give back. This world is a beautiful, glorious place with all sorts of problems. If you are blessed, find ways to give back to help those problems. Whether you volunteer with your favorite charity, make a donation to a cause or simply practice a random act of kindness that gets your no recognition at all... one resolution could be to decide to do something monthly or even quarterly depending on your time and financial situation.
Thanks again for kicking off this New Year with Running in a Skirt! I've got all sorts of great things planned for 2018 and I can't wait to share this year with you.
Your turn!

Great Resolutions! I actually reached out to someone to say Happy New Year that I haven't talked to in awhile. I said it'd be nice to catch up, and she says yeah sounds good. but I am sure I will have to be the next one to reach out. I just hate when it is only one sided. So we will see.
JulieWunder says
Yeah-- that kind of stuff is hard when you are the only one making it happen. I agree. I do think that sometimes friendships fade and it's ok to let go without hard feelings. 🙂 I'm a work in progress over this stuff too-- far from an expert.:-)

These are great! The one that jumps out at me and screams my name tho, is the one about forgiving someone. I have held a grudge against someone since the summer of 2013, over a job that she (a friend!) undermined away from me at a time when my family was in desperate need and she knew it. The fact that I am not well and have a slight disability that works against me when trying to find gainful employment certainly didn't help. I have been trying ever since I lost that job to her, to let it go and move past it, but I always find myself right back to square one when our family-owned business is slow and the bills are late and piling up. I'm trying my best and I know I need to just put this whole thing behind me and let it go, but it has been so doggone hard!
Thanks for the inspiration. Happy New Year to you and yours!
JulieWunder says
Ohhh stuff like that is so hard, because it sounds like you have a good reason to hold a grudge. Maybe I'm wrong but even I'm wrong but just letting go of the anger internally really helps. I'm a work in progress over it too though... it's not easy at all.

These are great intentions for the new year! I really like the one about forgiveness. I'm like you and I tend to hold a grudge sometimes 🙁
Enjoy your trip!!
JulieWunder says
It's so hard to just forgive... but I'm hoping to do it more. 🙂

Trying something new is always on my list! Forgiving someone is an interesting and not so easy task always
JulieWunder says
I know. It's something I struggle with too... but it feels good to let it go!

So jealous you'll be in Hawaii this week! Enjoy it! I can't wait for warm weather to try and go on a hike. I love the mountains but it's a commitment to get to them from where I live.
JulieWunder says
I can't wait for summer too! I'm not made for winter- lol!
