With two dogs who are both puppies getting a bit older, (Reina is 8, Rhett is 12!) it seems like I am always at the vet.
“We aren’t any trouble, really!”
If you follow me on twitter, you might have seen that this week was no exception. Normally it’s Rhett that’s causing me problems (I swear one year I was at the vet every other month with him)…
“See.. no problem AT ALL, Mom.”
This time it was Reina that gave us a good scare.
Reina-face (nick name) at the vet. She was pissed!
“Lets leave now… I’m FINE.”
Reina got a funny looking spot on her last week. It didn’t seem to bother her or cause her pain, but it looked really strange. At first we thought it was a bug bite or an ingrown hair but it grew very quickly over the weekend and neither the hubs or I had any good explanation what it was. SO.. off to the vet we go! The hubby didn’t tell me at the time, but he was worried it was something really serious. I just thought it was an infected bite or something.
The vet immediately identified it at as a sebaceous adenoma. He said most likely it was benign or harmless but he wanted to check it for cancer just to be sure.
SAY WHAT!
Luckily he could test for it in his office by taking a sample through a needle and looking at it through a microscope. I was a little panicky for a few minutes waiting for him to come back into the room but luckily he came back and gave me the all clear.
He told me that spot wouldn’t go away, but it is just cosmetic and shouldn’t cause her any problems. He also told me we might see more of these spots in the future. Ugh…. Really, no trouble at all.
We got back home and I played with both pups a little in the yard. Fingers crossed that we don’t have any more scares anytime soon. I love these guys so much.
Luckily Reina didn’t stay mad for long.
Just give this princess dog a tennis ball and she is in bliss!

We found out in July that our 9 3/4 year old pug, Knute, had mast cell tumors and they are not able to be operated on.So he is on chemo, prednisone, benadryl and antibiotics. He doesn't act any different, and I hope we have him for a long time. I don't know how people with sick kids do it-this is hard enough

Julie I agree with you...our babies are our life. Our 15 year old Cocker became ill recently and due to his age the Vet made the decision he should be put to sleep. So the day came and it has been a very difficult time for Hubs and me. I have problems sleeping because I don't hear that "snore"; I hear those little footsteps walking through the house; and I find little toys under the bed, sofa, chairs, etc. Soooo continue to enjoy those babies, and glad all turned out well.

Marie-- I am so sorry for your loss. 🙁

I am so with you! We have dachshunds Cody and Maggie that are 12 and 13. Maggie is working thru nine lives. She had some liver issues show up in blood work last year but with supplements it corrected itself. However on labor day weekend we were at Reach because she was bleeding from her mouth and it wouldn't stop. It took a couple of trips to the vet before she was diagnosed with a blood disease of AIHA. Her body was killing her red blood cells. It's been a month of prednisone, antacids, stomach medicine (because of the prednisone) and lab checks but she is finally improving. Two weeks ago the C word came up but with the improved numbers this week she is on the road to recovery and may be on prednisone the rest of her life which if you ask me is going to many, many more years. Just thinking of losing any three of our dogs and I can get weepy....just not good. Glad your baby was fine!!

Aw jeesh! You have been through it! I'm glad she is improving. I love my crazy dogs, even when they are a pain 🙂
